Through the creation of witness, my curiousity in using archival footage was sparked.
I thus decided to return to an exploration of archival film, searching for childhood and adolescent events that I could recontextualize. However, this time I was interested in focusing on societal ideals that are placed on men.
I was particularly drawn to emotions connected to fear, and how fear (as a method of control) is instilled in young boys,
subsequently affecting them and in turn, society at large.

The title 'loupe' refers to the French word for magnifying glass, and also to the concept of a 'loop' (whether it be looped time, action, or image). The footage was gathered at the National Archives in College Park Maryland.
